Experiential Learning

Among the most impressive features of our programs is the integration of coursework with communities in the Syracuse area and abroad. For instance, students have assisted Spanish speakers in the city of Syracuse through different nonprofit organizations, and studied abroad in a variety of locations to boost their language proficiency and cultural understanding.

Undergraduate Research

Syracuse University students have a unique opportunity to work with the SOURCE – a campus office that matches students with faculty researchers and provides research funding and mentorship. Some of the current Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics students received research awards to explore, among other topics, how individuals create or modify their identities within linguistic and cultural communities.

Careers

In our programs, students can intern with nonprofit organizations as part of their coursework. This, combined with rigorous coursework and other experiential learning opportunities, prepares them to work in many fields, among them:

  • Translation and Interpretation (Medical, Financial, Legal)
  • International Organizations
  • Multinational Corporations
  • Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
  • Intelligence Careers at National Security Agencies
