We also offer a Master’s degree in Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture The graduate degree provides students with in-depth study in the areas of literature, theory, linguistics, cultural theory, critical thought and research methods. Our graduates go on to doctoral degrees, work in the private sector, and teach at all levels.

Spanish Placement Exam

All students who would like to take Spanish are required to take a placement examination, regardless of previous exposure to or instruction in Spanish. The exam is available online, just click on 'Placement Exam' below. Alternatively, the placement exam for Spanish language courses can be found online directly through your myslice account: Log into your Myslice account, and select Placement Exam.

  • Read all the instructions and follow the prompts.
  • After you open the sound files, you should reduce the size of the sound file window and place it to the right of your screen.
  • The first 13 questions are listening comprehension.
  • Questions 14-53 are the reading comprehension. Choose the best answer and be sure to answer all 53 questions. You are encouraged to guess if you are not sure of an answer.
  • Once you have answered a question you cannot go back to change your answer.
  • You will be given the results of your placement exam at the end of the exam. However, you must return to MYSLICE to find out the level of Spanish into which you have been placed! NOTE: this information is not at the end of the exam; it is only available on Myslice: click on “view my placement exam results” to see the level into which you have placed. It may be necessary to “refresh” the page in order to view this information. You will be placed in a "student group" (i.e., level) within 24 hours after completing the exam; you will then be able to register for any open section of the level into which you have placed.
